Alumni Careers

VLS is a national law school with a reputation for turning out lawyers who have a special commitment. We encourage our students to take the long view and to anticipate that they will take several steps on the way to their chosen careers. Law Firms

Across the nation and abroad, our graduates are working in both large and small law firms, focusing on litigation, the environment, energy, intellectual property, taxation, antitrust, securities, and more.

Our graduates work in national, state, and local government positions with organizations such as the EPA, the Department of Justice, the U.S. Senate, state attorneys general and regulartory agencies, and a host of local district attorney and municipal offices.

VLS alumni include an environmental justice attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council, public affairs director for Planned Parenthood, staff attorneys for such groups as Defenders of Wildlife and the National Senior Citizens Law Center, and legal-aid and public-defender organizations across the nation. One alum works as senior policy officer for species conservation and advocacy at the World Wildlife Fund.

Corporations such as Sandoz International GmbH, global law firms including Baker & MacKenzie LLP, and NGOs such as the World Bank, Human Rights First, and USAID employ VLS graduates because of their international experience and legal sophistication. VLS offers a variety of international and dual-degree programs outside of the United States.

Seventeen percent of VLS graduates-nearly twice the national average-accept clerkships around the country with both state and federal judges. And several of our alumni have risen to judgeships in state and federal courts.

Serving as CEOs, in-house counsel, and environmental consultants, VLS graduates are working in companies such as General Electric, Atlantic Richfield, Tyco, Sprint Nextel, and Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank.
